Means for holding the overlapped limbs 3, 5 of a loop 4 in a rope &c., comprising a clamp 1 secured to the limbs by a pressing operation, is characterized by the addition of a supplementary member 2 forming a continuation of the clamp 1 along the rope, the member 2 being secured to the rope 3 by a pressing operation, as by dies 20a, 20b. The member 2 may be provided with ring-shaped ridges 21a, 21b to cause the material to flow radially inwards to grip the rope. The member 2 may be replaced by a coil spring of conical form. In the modification of Fig. 4, the clamp portion 1a is furnished with an elongated portion 1b in which the end of the supplementary portion 2a is contained. The clamping means may be employed to connect the overlapping ends of two ropes or cables.
