A frame to be built into a shoe comprises a base extending from the rear of the heel at least to the metatarsus with its bottom surface in conformation with normal last shaping and its top surface in conformation with the shape of the foot, and a wall extending around the base from near the front at each side with its upper edge sloping upwardly to a concave heel portion which is of substantially constant height, the wall being contoured to fit the arch and rear part of the foot, and the inner surfaces of the base and wall merging by a smooth curve. The bottom outer edge of the wall joins the base by a sharp angle or curve. Preferably the frame is made as a one-piece moulding, but it may be assembled from separate sections. The frame may be formed into a unit, Fig. 7, with an insole I and lining L by adhesive or by moulding, and an upper and outsole attached by normal methods. The frame may be extended further forwardly than shown.
