835,236. Continuous discharge mixing machines. BALCH, G. G. Oct. 10, 1956 [Oct. 13, 1955], No. 29208/55. Class 86 [Also in Group VI] Two or more different or differently coloured flowable plastic substances (e.g. ice cream and an immiscible sauce) are mixed to produce a variegated appearance in the mixture. Ice cream is supplied under pressure through an inlet 9, Fig. 3, to a duct 1 in which it can expand and thereafter pass through a constriction 13 to an outlet pipe 11 connected to the duct by a union nut 8. Secured coaxially in the duct by means of a flange 16 and union nut 7, is a conduit 15 through which is supplied a sauce, the conduit being centralized in the duct by radial pins. 20. At its inner end the conduit 15 is provided, through a bayonet connection 22, with a cap 21 having a plurality of radial and chamfered nozzles 23 disposed adjacent the constriction 13, whereby the sauce is introduced into the ice cream stream. The mixture is thereafter compressed. In a modification the nozzles are oblique to the axis of the conduit and are not chamfered. If desired the nozzles may be arranged at intervals helically around the conduit or in a series of pairs or groups in spaced parallel planes perpendicular to the conduit axis.
