863,857. Valves. KENDON DEVELOPMENTS Ltd. Aug. 19, 1958 [June 17, 1957], No. 19011/57. Addition to 863,856. Class 135. [Also in Groups XI and XIII] A combined inlet and outlet valve for water heating apparatus of the type described in the parent Specification comprises a valve body 1 formed with apertures 2 and 3, connected to the main water supply and the heating apparatus respectively, and apertures 4 and 5, connected to the heating apparatus and the hot water outlet respectively, and having an inlet valve member 21 with a shaft 25 closing the aperture 3 and an outlet valve member 6 closing the aperture 4 and having a shaft 18 which cooperates with a handle shaft 13 and a control handle 7. The valve members 6 and 21 are spring-biased in the off position. A lever 30 pivoted at 34 to the shaft 25 has a forked end 32 which bears against a shoulder 33 on the shaft 13, its other end 31 bearing on an adjustable screw 29 threaded into the valve body 1. The shaft 13 has a screw feed 14 so that rotation of the handle 7 causes axial movement of the member 6 to the open position, allowing hot water to be delivered to the aperture 5 and the outlet; at the same time a shoulder 33 on the shaft 13 engages the fork 32 and the lever 30 pivots on the end 31 to exert a pull on the inlet valve member 21 so that opening of the outlet valve results in opening of the inlet valve. To enable water at a somewhat lower temperature to be delivered, a by-pass passageway 35 controlled by a valve member operable by a handle 37 (Fig. 1, not shown) may be provided to connect apertures 3 and 4 so that some cold water may be allowed to mix with hot water passing on its way to the outlet.
