In a flexible consumable arc welding electrode having a flux coated wire core 10, opposite sides 12, 19 of the wire core are flat and one of the flat sides is uncoated. The core may be of hexagonal or oval cross-section. A pair of electrodes 14 are fed from reels 15 by rollers 18 past a wedge-shaped contact shoe 20 which passes current to the bare sides 12 of the electrodes. Rollers 17a bring the base sides 12 together so that at the arc the electrodes 14 form a single twin-cored coated electrode. The flux coating 9 opposite the base side 12 may be notched to facilitate bending.
