The invention comprises compounds of general formula FORM:0974710/C1/1 wherein X1 and X2 either each represent a hydrogen atom or together represent an additional bond, and R1 represents an alkyl radical having at most 5 carbon atoms; and their acid addition salts; and their preparation by hydrolysing or hydrogenolysing a compound of formula FORM:0974710/C1/2 wherein Ac represents an organic acid radical or a functional derivative thereof. Acid derivatives II (e.g. N-carbethoxy-methylamino compounds) are prepared from tertiary amines of formula FORM:0974710/C1/3 wherein R2 is benzyl, alkenyl or alkyl (e.g. dimethylamino compounds) which may themselves be obtained by reaction of the cyclohepten-5-ones with a substituted propyl metal compound followed by dehydration. Pharmaceutical compositions comprise compounds I and salts of the invention with carriers.
