PICT:0933636/IV(a)/1 Continuous webs or discrete sheets of paper, cloth, plastics or like material are conditioned, cured or otherwise treated by a gas and/or vapour, such as air or steam, in an enclosed housing wherein are a plurality of angularly adjustable nozzles. The webs, or sheets supported by guide tapes, preferably pass horizontally through the housing and are located by skids or support devices 35 above and below the webs and through the extremities of which jets of air issue so that the webs may pass without contact with guide members thereby, it is stated, avoiding creasing. The skids may be vertically adjustable. Nozzles 25 are mounted on cylindrical bars 26 for adjustment and are mounted on pressure boxes 23 of which there are several within the housing connected to a fan. The air circulated by the fan may have its temperature, humidity and pressure adjusted and where a plurality of units with separate fans are employed, one unit may be supplied with hot air, one with cold, and another with humid air.
