A sedimentation tank 1 has sweeping blades 6 carried on bridge 4 by rail 11. The horizontal deflection of the blade is limited by the length of chain 12. The sludge is swept into trough 2 for discharge by pump 7. The movement of the bridge may be controlled to relate to the concentration of sludge on the tank floor.
