Improvements relating to locking means for screw-threaded connections

A means for frictionally locking together a nut 10 and bolt 11 comprises an L-shaped pin having a straight portion of flattened or oval section presenting an axially extending area of reduced radius which portion can be fitted into a straight bore 14 of circular cross-section which, as shown, is formed in the nut but which may be formed in the bolt. As shown, the bore 14 intersects only the root portion of the screw thread of the nut. The axis of the bore is either parallel to the rotational axis of the nut or slightly oblique thereto in a plane parallel to the said axis. When the pin is inserted into the bore 14 with the area of reduced radius facing towards the bolt, the area clears the thread of the bolt, but on rotation of the pin, the flank thereof engages the crests of the threads 20 with a camming action which locks the nut to the bolt. The arm 18 of the pin extends parallel to a groove 22 in the end face of the nut when the pin is turned into its locking position. The pin is bent down into the groove 22 to prevent rotation.
