In a method of introducing thermoplastic yarns into a crimping apparatus, wherein they are crimped by plying and heat-setting along a length and then separating, two or more yarn sections are doubled and wound uon a cylindrical body, the ends of the yarn sections are fastened to the yarn ends of feed reels and the doubled yarn sections are drawn off over the end of the cylindrical body and are directed into the apparatus. The doubled sections are guided by a deflecting roller which is located outside a heating device during the introductory preparation and is inserted into the heating passage with the travelling plied yarns when these attain operational speed.
