A process for the preparation of a therapeutically applicable salicylic acid salt

The invention comprises betaine salicylate, and the preparation thereof by reacting, in an inert organic solvent, betaine with salicylic acid, or a betaine salt with a salicylic acid salt. The invention further comprises solid therapeutic preparations in unit dosage form (e.g. tablets, capsules and suppositories) containing 50-500 mg. of betaine salicylate, and liquid therapeutic preparations comprising betaine salicylate in an aqueous alcoholic medium. The preparations are useful for treating rheumatic disease and as analgesic agents.
