1,096,424. Steam generators. BUDERUS' SCHE EISENWERKE. Jan. 26, 1965 [Feb. 6, 1964], No. 3367/65. Heading F4A. A cast iron or steel boiler for supplying steam or hot water is heated by flameless combustion elements 2 having waste gas pipes 3, both the elements and the pipes being disposed in the water or steam chamber of the boiler or in both. As shown in Fig. 3, some of the combustion elements 12 having ribs 13 act as superheaters and are arranged horizontally in a steam chamber 9 separated from the water chamber 8 by a partition 7 through which pass their waste gas pipes 11 extending downwardly to a common outlet with the pipes 3 through outlet which any water of condensation runs away. The fuel-air mixture is fed to the combustion elements in such a way that the fuel or the air supplies may be interrupted. In a modification, the combustion elements are arranged vertically and supported from the top of the boiler and the waste gas pipes pass through the bottom of the boiler. A number of small boilers may be assembled in pairs side by side, the respective fuel and waste gas pipes being connected in parallel and arranged all on the top wall of the boiler battery (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown), or with fuel pipes on the top and the waste gas pipes below (Fig. 4, not shown). A modified form of boiler unit (Fig. 7, not shown) comprises a horizontal double-walled boiler member with internal ribs projecting into a central combustion chamber heated by a flameless element having a waste gas pipe with a conical inner surface.
