1,216,678. Gas fired heat cleaned oven; thermal regenerators. INSTITUTE OF GAS TECHNOLOGY. 2 Oct., 1967 [30 Sept., 1966; 23 Nov., 1966], No. 44836/67. Headings F4K and F4W. A gas fired oven is heat cleaned by heating the cavity to beyond the normal temperature of operation, and utilizing the heat derived from the hot exhaust gases to attain the high temperatures required. The air required for combustion and to heat clean a cooking oven is delivered by a fan 19a through a rotary regenerator 5, the gases exhausted from the oven by a second fan 19 passing through the other side of the regenerator 5. The burner in the oven may be non-aerated, or it may be wholly or partially aerated. The fans 19, 19a and the regenerator 5 may continue to run after the gas supply is shut off. The oven may have more than one burner, and the inlet and outlet passages 15, 13 the fans 19, 19a are mounted in a housing at the rear of the oven, the exhaust gases delivering over the cooker top-plate. The regenerator 5 is cylindrical and may be of rolledup corrugated material of honeycomb design Fig. 3; and may comprise asbestos, asbestos impregnated with sodium silicate or ceramic. The seals 12 are of glass fibre.
