Apparatus for the automatic lubrication of an injection piston of a cold-chamber pressure casting machine, comprises a pump 5 having a variable-stroke plunger-piston secured to a piston 8 which is operated by compressed air through a distributer 11 and a relay valve 16 controlled by a cam 17 connected to the injection piston. The pump 5 is charged with lubricant from a tank 7 and is actuated by compressed air supplied through a conduit 13, a filter 14, a conduit 15, the three-way valve 16, the distributer 11 and a conduit 10. In operation, the cam 17 is actuated by the injection piston at the beginning of its travel and at the end of the return thereof; thus the valve 16 controls the pump 5, via the distributer 11, and lubricant is forced through conduits 4SP1/SP, 4, 3SP1/SP, 3 and a part-circular conduit 2, to points A, B and C on a container 1 which receives the injection piston. Air discharged from the pump 5 returns to the distributer 11 through a conduit 12. The stroke of the plunger piston may be varied by a screw 19 mounted on a rod 9 carried by the piston 8. Lubricant may be drained from the system through a cock 18.
