1,238,372. Aminoanthraquinones containing chloromethyl or bromomethyl groups. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 27 Feb., 1969 [25 March, 1968], No. 14270/68. Heading C4P. The invention comprises anthraquinone compounds containing one or two chloromethyl or bromomethyl groups, each of which is ortho to an α-primary amino group and the anthraquinone nucleus may be further substituted, e.g. halogen, optionally substituted anilino, benzthiazol-2SP1/SP-yl, acetylamino or hydroxy. They are prepared by chlorinating or brominating the corresponding hydroxy-methyl anthraquinone, preferably using thionyl chloride or bromide, HCl or HBr in an inert organic liquid at between 15‹ C. and the boiling point of the inert organic liquid. The compounds are dyestuff intermediates.
