1,202,229. Chlorinated PVC. KANEGAFUCHI CHEMICAL INDUSTRY CO. Ltd. 27 Oct., 1967, No. 48932/67. Heading C3P. Chlorinated PVC is obtained by subjecting to the action of chlorine and light or an auxiliary chlorinating agent a PVC obtained by suspension polymerization using as suspending agent cellulose derivatives, finely divided inorganic material or finely divided carboxylates of Group II metals. The PVC may contain up to 5% of a comonomer. Specified as dispersing agents are methyl or carboxymethyl cellulose; magnesium, calcium or zinc hydroxide; barium or calcium carbonate; barium sulphate; calcium phosphate; calcium maleate, oxalate or tartrate: bentonite or silica gel. A surface-active agent, e.g. alkyl sulphate or alkaryl sulphonate may also be present. Auxiliary chlorinating agents mentioned are antimony chloride and phosphorus pentachloride.
