In a turbogenerator rotor 1 comprising a body having a hollow conductor excitation winding through which a liquid coolant e.g. water is circulated, the winding leads comprise liquid cooled bifilar hollow conductors 13, 14 located within straight continuous bores 10 which are provided in a non-driven end shaft portions 2 of the body, inclined with respect to the rotor longitudinal axis, and terminate respectively at the body surface adjacent the end winding 3 and the shaft portions end, external to which the bifilar conductor coolant and electrical connections are made. The electrical connections are to the end winding 3 via bars not shown, and at the shaft end to slip rings or other transmission devices not shown, on hollow semicircular straps 17, 18 which interconnect hydraulically conductors of the same polarity. The cooling water connections to the winding comprise coaxial channels 7, 8, radial pipes 6, and radially separated compartments in. an annular distribution chamber 5; those to the leads 13, 14 are either connecting pieces and elements 15, 16 at the chamber 5, or, Fig. 3, insulated pipe lengths (19, 20) extending to channels 7, 8.
