A method of producing a widened portion in the vicinity of the end of a tube of plastics material, wherein the end of the tube is pushed over a shape-variable core while said core is in a condition such that its external shape corresponds to the desired internal shape of the widened tube, and is then consolidated over the core, after which the core is deformed to a shape which permits its removal from the shaped tube end. Also claims apparatus for carrying out the method as claimed.
