The substance to be dried is transported into the chamber on a carriage which has a box-shaped container with several parallel floors. These are fitted to one of the container walls and form heated support surfaces for the material. The container is pivotable so that, at the feeding station, the material is heaped into the pockets formed by the floors and after pivoting through 90 degrees spread out the floors.
