[Also in Division F1] An hydraulic jack comprises a piston 10 and cylinder 15, a reciprocatory pump assembly 25, an oscillatory driving mechanism including a crank spindle 44 and a crank arm 41 connected to the pump by a rod 40 and a housing 50 defining an hydraulic liquid reservoir and accommodating both the pump and the oscillatory mechanism. In order to facilitate assembly of the crank spindle 44 into the jack, an assembly table 45 is provided on the pump assembly 25 to support the oscillatory mechanism in a position such that bearings 53, 54 in the housing 50 and a square aperture 43 in the crank arm 41 are approximately axially aligned, Fig. 3. End journal 60 of the spindle 44 is tapered to define a " lead-in," the action of inserting the spindle 44 lifting the crank arm 41 off the table 45 as shown in Fig. 2.
