The example given is a mixture of a dilute solution of lithium deuteroxide and U-238 or Th-232. By the action of thermal neutrons on Li-6, tritons are produced which undergo a fusion reaction with H-2 or H-3 atoms, producing high speed neutrons which may either bring about fission of U-238 or Th-232 or be absorbed by these atoms with the formation of fissile material.
