The connection system for a stepped transformer has a number of pairs of vertical selector rods (4) with contact members around them from top to bottom. Above these contact members are mounted contact arms (1), attached to one rod of each pair. These arms are in pairs, crossing each other to connect two rods, one from each of two adjacent pairs. The crossing point of each pair is a vertical rod (2), these rods being arranged in a pattern so as to connect selected pairs of arms which are vertically above one another. At these crossing points, straps (3) are passed, connecting them together. Each arm has a boss as the end to fit around a rod. These bosses may be in two sectons, with dovetail joints fixing them together. Oval bosses may be used with oval section rods, permitting a limited play.
