The circuit comprises a power source, a thyristor, the primary winding of a pulse transformer, and a diode all connected in series, and has a transistor in parallel with the thyristor. Triggering the thyristor from an external source produces a fast rising pulse through the transformer, and later switching of the transistor determines the pulse length as set out in main patent 2003775. More reliable operation is achieved by incorporating a detector and time delay circuit between thyristor and transistor which initiates transistor switching when the volt drop across the thyristor falls to the forward conducting value. The circuit then switches the transistor after a time delay determined by the pulse width required.
