1,267,657. Unloading and loading pallets. SIMON HANDLING ENGS. Ltd. 16 April, 1969 [22 April, 1968], No. 18884/68. Heading B8C. A method of transferring a load G from a pallet 1 to a platen 2, via a rotatable receptacle 6 which has pressure pads on reciprocable walls, comprises simultaneously passing the loaded pallet 1 and the uppermost platen 2 of a magazine 19 to roller feed tables 15, 16, respectively, and upon which they are clamped. The roller feed tables 15, 16 are clamped to a base-plate 17 which is then slid into the receptacle 6 to close its open bottom 9. The base-plate 17 and roller feed tables 15, 16 are clamped relative to the receptacle whereupon the walls are moved in by a series of interconnected levers and pistons. The receptacle 6 is then rotated to transfer the weight of the goods to a back wall 7 whereupon the base-plate 17 &c. are undamped from the receptacle and moved away slightly so that upon sliding it downwardly the platen 2 now takes up the previous position of the pallet 1. The base-plate 17 &c. are reclamped and the receptacle 6 rotated anticlockwise. The baseplate 17 &c. are undamped again and moved out of the receptacle 6 so that the loaded platen now occupies the original position of the roller feed table 15 and is thereafter transferred to a conveyer system 5 via conveyer system 4. Alternatively the loaded pallet is superimposed on a platen which is clamped to a flat carriage (50), Fig. 2 (not shown), upon a roller feed table (51). The roller feed table (51) &c. are moved into the receptacle, clamped thereto and rotated. After unclamping, the table &c. are moved outwardly slightly to allow the pallet to fall free. Upon repositioning the platen, and anticlockwise rotation of the receptacle, the load becomes transferred to the platen. The receptacle 6 comprises side walls 8, a rear wall 7, an open bottom 9 and removable top and front walls 10, 11. The walls 7, 8, 10, 11 are reciprocated between open and closed positions by means of interconnecting levers and pistons, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown). The receptacle rotates on stub axles 13 about a horizontal axis and may be provided with movable guide rails at its open bottom.
