1314591 Foundry moulding plant; guiding flasks P J A DARBONVILLE 19 May 1970 [3 June 1969 9 Dec 1969] 24294/70 Heading B3F [Also in Divisions B8 and F2] An apparatus for assembling drag and cope foundry mould parts includes an inclined roller conveyer 3 for transporting drags (1, not shown) to a mould assembly station (where the drags are halted by stops 85, 86), a framework 7-18 over the roller conveyer 3 which framework comprises a cope transfer platform 27-34 supported on bars 23-26 of the framework 7-18 by sleeves 19-22 to be liftable and lowerable by a ram 50 (through a linkage 49-51) in order to position a cope 2 above a drag (1) upon the conveyer 3 and lower the cope 2 on to the drag (1) and means for feeding the copes 2 on to the cope transfer platform 27-34. The cope feeding means in a roller conveyer 5, 35 which is aligned with two counterweighted pivoting bars 62, 63 (carrying rollers 6 and mounted on the cope transfer platform 27-34) when the cope transfer platform 27-34 is in its raised position. A cope 2 is rolled on to rollers 6 and its lug 43 engages a limit switch 74, the lug 43 being centred by inclined magnetized bar (81, 82, not shown). Engagement of limit switch 74 initiates downward movement of the platform 27-34 by a control circuit (not shown). When cope 2 and drag (1) are in engagement cams 65, 66 attached to the pivoting bars 62, 63 disengage from holding rods (67, 68, not shown) and the pivoting bars 62, 63 tilt to release the cope 2. The tilting of bars 62, 63 operates a further limit switch (73, not shown) which initiates upward movement of the platform 27-34, the pivoting bars 62, 63 being returned to their original positions by the cams 65, 66 engaging holding bars 67, 68. As the platform 27-34 moves upwardly a bar 28 thereof engages a plate 91 (not shown) and retracts stops 85, 86 by a lever mechanism (not shown) so that the assembled casting mould may roll down the inclined conveyer 3. As seen in Fig. 4 the assembly apparatus C can be employed in a plant including a drag moulding machine A and a cope moulding machine B. A preliminary drag aligning device 4 is provided comprising a pair of drag-engaging fingers 94, 95 (Fig. 13) pivotable in a horizontal plane and linked by a lever arrangement 95, 96, 97 to pivot in opposite directions to the same extent.
