In the examples coal digest, made by treating coal with coal tar pitch at 300‹ C., and extended with anthracene oil was mixed with either (1) bis-(4-isocyanatophenyl)methane, anthracene oil, stannous octanoate, silicone surfactant and water, or (2) an isocyanurate formed by trimerizing di(4-isocyanatophenyl)methane, trichlorofluoromethane and a mixture of compounds having at least two hydroxyl groups/ molecule, catalysts and surfactants, and both mixtures foamed to produce semi-rigid and rigid cellular materials respectively.
