Butenes or O-contg. derivs of butene or propene are oxidised with O2 (contg. gas) in presence of catalyst on silica gel, silicic acid or alpha-alumina as carrier the total catalyst contg. =0.1 wt.% of alkali (calc. as Na2O), which is extractable by hot 10% HCl.
