1334635 Nitrobenzyl sulphonates ELI LILLY & CO 18 April 1972 [19 April 1971] 17895/72 Heading C2C Nitrobenzyl sulphonates of Formula I in which R is methyl or p-tolyl, are prepared by reacting a nitrobenzyl alcohol with at least an equimolar amount of methanesulphonyl or ptoluenesulphonyl chloride in acetone at 5 to 45‹ C., in the presence of at least an equimolar amount of dicyclohexylamine based on the nitrobenzyl alcohol, separating the precipitate of dicyolohexylamine hydrochloride from the reaction mixture and recovering the desired sulphonate.
