1365191 Securing windings ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO Ltd 5 Jan 1973 [5 Jan 1972] 521/72 Heading H2A In a large generator, conductor bars 12, 14, 15, 13, &c. forming the axial portions of the winding of the stator 10 are disposed in trough members 16, 20, &c. in the air gap between the stator 10 and rotor 11, side walls 17, 21 of the members 16, 20, &c. and side walls 19, 23 of cover plate members 18, 22, &c. being supported within a series of caps 24 which fit tightly into axial slots 25 in the stator 10. In a further embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) each cap 24 is fixed in a larger slot 25 with the aid of packing material (26-28); alternatively, (Figs. 3-5, not shown), caps 24 may be omitted and the side walls held in the slots by slot wedges (33, 34) and/or packing material (26A/B, 27A/B). In the embodiment of Fig. 6, cover plates 18A are provided with protrusions 40 in order to leave air cooling gaps 41 between the cover plates and stator; for similar purposes ducts 42 are provided in slot wedges 33A, 34A, and also ducts 41 A in the stator 10.
