Fastener for clothes rails in wardrobes has a bush which can be inserted into the furniture panel, with holders for the end of the rod and a cover for the holders when there is no rod present. Preferably the bush at least on a section protruding over the panel has an aperture to receive an end of a rod; the aperture can be closed with a cover. The aperture to receive a rod end may have a section, extending to the edge of the bush, for lateral insertion of the end of a clothes rod.
