One component of the safety brake rotates in a housing, and is coupled by the action of a centrifugal trip to a rotor, positively driven when the cage is descending at least. When this component is not coupled to the rotor it is spring-loaded against a stationary brake component in the housing. The abutment of the spring furthest from the brake components is connected to a holder detachably secured to the housing, allowing its adjustment in the direction in which the spring acts. Where the brake is of the multiplate type, the abutment can be mounted so as to slide, but not turn in the housing in the axial direction, being held by a threaded component screwing into the holder.
