Novel linear, fibre and film-forming polyesters contain dicarboxylic acid gps. (=90 mole % terephthalic acid gps.) diol gps. (=90 mol % ethylene glycol gps.) and 0.1-4 mole %, pref. 0.2-2 mole % (w.r.t. the dicarboxylic acid gps.) of polyether gps. of formula (I). (in which R1 is a 1-10C alkyl, cycloalkyl aryl or aralkyl contg. up to 10C, R2 is the same as R1 or is -Y-O-(G-O)n in which Y is 1-20C alkylene, cycloalkylene, arylene or aralkylene, G is 2-4C alkylene, n = 1-300 (pref. 10-80) X is the same as Y, Z is where G is as above, R3 is H or 1-6C (pref. 1-4C) alkyl, A and B are the same as Y, with the proviso that if R2 is -Y-O-(G-O)n, Z can be -O-(G-O)n only, the pref. Z is -O-(CH2-CH2-O) or -CH(CH2-O(CH2-CH2-O)n)2). Increased affinity for dispersion dyes and flame-resistance are obtd.
