Cover for energy absorbing bumper - with plastic flaps to protect sliders and displaced when bumper compressed

The car bumper has a rigid section mounted on energy absorbing arms with the front of the bumper covered by a plastic strip. The plastic strip has upper and lower sections which cover the gap between the body and the bumper bar to form a streamlined shape, while protecting the bumper sliding mechanism from dirt. The upper and lower sections are provided with grooves on the outside, with the grooves running horizontally, while the leading edges of the sections rest on deflection flanges on the body. When the bumper is compressed the sections ride over the flanges, and when the bumper returns to its normal setting the sections slide back and cover the gap again.
