Simultaneously tapering a number of candles previously made in another machine as cylindrical shapes and already provided with contoured base sections and tips, in which a horizontal row of candles, typically eight in number, are pushed sideways for alignment under a series of suction heads in which the candle bases are positioned. The suction heads are on a swivel arm which then aligns the candles vertically over the upper mouths of a multiple melt cutter into which they are lowered and then withdrawn whilst being simultaneously rotated. Further movement and swivelling posns. the candles on a conveyor belt and from there to a packing station. The formation of broken candles during shaping is eliminated.
