A plasticiser for synthetic thermoplastic material has a heating chamber with a plasticising screw or an injection ram along the axis of which a heater pipe extends to a point outside the chamber and beyond the screw or ram, where a heater is arranged on one end of the pipe. Less heat energy is necessary than with external, easily damaged resistances. More accurate control of the actual temperature of the plastic, and less idle time waiting for heating up and cooling down.
