Bottom pour ladles for molten steel - with lower part of sliding stopper designed to prevent blockage during use

A process for transferring molten metal from one container to another, using a nozzle made of a refractory materil (I) which contains a liner of a second refractory material (II) possessing greater resistance to molten metal, slag and erosion than (I); the liner is located at the entry end of the nozzle, i.e. where the molten metal enters, and extends for min. half the length of the nozzle (I). Material (II) pref. has a heat-capacity similar to that of chamotte, and the pref. assembly consists of a ZrO2 liner (II) in a chamotte nozzle (I), the liner being held in place by an adhesive, and the assembly used in a sliding stopper for a bottom-pour ladle or similar container for aluminium-killed steel. The erosion of the liner matches the rate of deposition of solid matter arising from the liq. steel so blockage of the nozzle is avoided.
