Aromatic sulphur-contg. lignin polymer - prepd. by heating lignin (derivs.) with sulphur (cpds.)

High M. W., 3-dimensional, aromatic, S-contg., lignin-based polymer, which is amorphous and practically insol. in usual org. solvents, contains: thioether gps.; opt. sulphoxide and sulphone gps.; opt. carbon-carbon bonding between the aromatic rings or side chains; and other bindings typical for lignin. The prod. has thermal stability 200 degrees C and is obtd. by heating (un)dissolved and (un)chlorinated lignin at 160-350 degrees C with S and/or (in)org. S cpds. opt. under pressure, pref. in N2 and/or steam atmos., opt. with solvents. The polymers have good chemical and mechanical durability and good electrically insulating props. They may be used for prodn. of plastic article opt. with other polymers, rubber, plasticisers and fillers.
