Cut-out machining method for pallet bases - uses milling machines to successively deepen cut-outs

A pallet making method includes a system of making a pair of cut-outs in each side member (2) which supports a set of boards (1) at right angles, these cut-outs being positioned to allow the blades (3) of the fork of a fork lift truck to slide underneath the pallet. These wooden side members are fed from a magazine onto a conveyor so that they are passed down a row of wood milling machines, so that after a shallow initial cut has been made, the cuts are made deeper by successive cutters. The milling tools are carried on swinging arms, so that the arm on each machine is swung further inwards that that of the preceding machine, ensuring a deeper cut.
