The device has a series of individual hinged collars each consisting of two curved arms (23) pivoting about a pin (25), and extending downwards and ending in chains connected to rings sliding on fixed uprights. The curved arms enclose the neck of the animal, and are provided with padding (33). Each arm has welded to it a bracket (35) formed from bars (37 and 39). A linkage is joined to a release link by a pin (71). The release link ends in a cam which when operated bears upon a roller on pin (25), causing the arms (23) to move outwards and releasing the neck of the animal.
