The engine has a crank case (1), cylinder head (2) and valve cover (3) and is provided with a carburetor (5). The carburetor (5) has a water-jacketed bowl (4) which collects excess fuel from the carburettor. The excess fuel drains through the pipe (10) and orifice (14) into the pipe (12) and into the collecting vessel (13). When an engine has to re-start within a short time of being stopped, excess fuel normally accumulates in the carburettor and inlet manifold. With this device the excess fuel is retained in the vessel (13) during restarting and is later evaporated during normal running and delivered by the pipe (7) to the carburettor inlet (6). An alternative design uses a non-return valve in the pipe (10) instead of the vessel (13).
