1409823 Induction coils OSOBOE KONSTRUKTORSKOE BJURO INSTITUTA VYSOKIKH TEMPERATUR AKADEMII NAUK SSSR 3 April 1973 [4 April 1972] 15850/73 Heading HIT An induction coil arrangement to provide a 1 MV pulse from a 10 KV input comprises a primary winding 1 with a coaxial secondary winding 5 inside it, the secondary winding, at least being enclosed in a hermetically sealed casing 7 containing a dielectric material having a dielectric strength of at least 50 KV/cm., e.g. SF 6 , or SF 6 with nitrogen, or SF 6 with "Freon" (Registered Trade Mark) under pressure, or with purified water under pressure, and with the windings being spaced to ensure an interwinding coupling coefficient between 0À2 and 0À8. The secondary winding, Fig. 2, comprises winding layers 9 separated by insulation 10 and potted in epoxy resin to form coils 11, a number of coils being interconnected by metal rings 12, 13. The primary winding may be outside the casing 7, which may be of glass fibre resin material, and output electrode 6 may be carried out through a bushing (Fig. 4, not shown).
