PACKAGES COMPRISING EYE BATHS AND EYE LOTIONS

1460064 Eye baths OPTREX Ltd 18 June 1975 [20 June 1974] 27444/74 Heading A5R [Also in Division B8] A packaged assembly comprises at least one eye bath and at least one discrete aliquot of eye lotion sufficient to fill the eye bath to an appropriate level for bathing an eye, the interior of the eye bath and the eye lotion being sterile and being sealed against contamination. As shown in Fig. 1, the assembly may comprise eye baths 2, 2' having a common base 3 each filled with eye lotion and sealed by membranes 4, 4'. The assembly may be surrounded by a sealed envelope 6. The membranes may be formed with lines of weakness and provided with tabs or rings 8, 8'. The eye baths may be filled through tubes 9, 9'. The package may also comprise an eye bath 20, containing an inner envelope 21 which contains the eye lotion, and an outer envelope 22 surrounding eye bath 20 and envelope 21, (Fig. 3, not shown). In a further embodiment, a package comprises a dual eye bath unit of similar shape to that shown in Fig. I containing a sealed sachet of eye lotion in each eye bath portion and an outer sealed envelope surrounding the dual eye bath unit and sachets (Fig. 4 not shown). A dual eye bath unit may be made by a blow-moulding process and injection filled. The membrane 46 may be connected to the wall 44 at a line of weakness 47 and may be provided with a rib 48 and ring structures 49 to facilitate removal. Alternatively, the package may comprise an eye bath 60, see Fig. 8, holding an aliquot of eye lotion and sealed by a membrane 62, which may be provided with a tab 63. Each eye bath may be open at the bottom and may be provided with a bottom edge 67 which conforms to the shape of the rim section 61, thereby assisting stacking of a plurality of such eye baths. In further embodiments the rim of the eye bath is in the form of a flange which is smoothly bent over in a downward direction, and the eye bath is sealed by a membrane which extends over the flange (Fig. 9 not shown). The floor of one bath may act as a sealing membrane for an eye bath arranged below it (Fig. 10 not shown). The membrane may be provided with a line of weakness and tab, (Fig. 11, not shown).
