Combined separator/purifier and elution plant for solid particles in suspension, esp. for use in sugar refining or coffee extract mfe, consisting of a column with a hydraulically/pneumatically operated piston with a filter mesh on its top face which sucks the suspension into the column during its suction stroke and then compressed the particles into a layer whilst the mother liquor is expelled through the mesh and out of the column. Heaters, mechanical agitators and feed pipes for eluent liquid with the appropriate valves are added to suit the detailed application. The plant is economical in space.
