The process of reducing a gas pressure from several hundred bars to ambient (e.g. as is required in the supply line between a gas bottle and respirator) needs at least 2 stages in cascade owing to the large differential. The device described has the two reduction stages incorporated in one body thus eliminating connections at intermediate pressures and cutting production costs. The upstream valve, effecting the major part of the reduction has a perfectly guided differential piston in a robust housing, whereas the downstream valve has sensing elements consisting of a light balanced clock valve actuated by a flexible membrane. This assures a very fine regulation, accommodating rapid fluctuations or even interruptions in the gas demand.
