1431811 Air conditioning buildings SVENSKA FLAKTFABRIKEN AB 28 March 1973 [10 April 1972] 14958/73 Heading F4V A method of air conditioning a building having rooms with different heating requirements connected to a central air conditioning installation, comprises maintaining the temperature of the air being discharged from the central installation at a value such as to produce a required temperature in that room in the building which has the smallest heating load, and utilizing the heat from the or each lighting fitting in each of the remaining rooms as additional heating for that room, wherein a controlled amount of exhaust air from that room is used to cool the or each lighting fitting in the room while the remainder of the exhaust air is passed through a by-pass duct so that the or each lighting fitting is not cooled thereby. In the room shown, a ceiling plenum chamber 6 is subdivided into the by-pass duct 8 and a duct 7 in which the lighting fittings LR 1 , LR 2 are located. The air flow rate through the ducts 8, 7 is controlled by dampers 9, 10 adjustable by a common motor 11. Exhaust air flows from the room to the plenum chamber 6 via a space between panes of a multipane window 5 and via a perforated diffuser 16 for the lighting fittings. The conditioned air is supplied to the room via a device 2 which induces a secondary flow of room air via a grid 3. When the damper 10 completely closes duct 7 and the temperature in the room is still below a desired value, an electrical heating element 13 is automatically actuated to heat the conditioned air supplied.
