1448857 Propelling motor vehicles D & K ORENSTEIN & KOPPEL AG 30 Nov 1973 [30 Nov 1972] 55598/73 Heading B7H An electrically propelled driving means for a vehicle, especially for a railway bogie, includes two wheel sets secured on parallel rotatable axles 3, 3a carried in a frame 1 between which is disposed an electric motor unit 4, 5, 8 which drives the axles through separate transmissions. The motor unit has inner and outer torque producing members 4 and 8 each provided with an output shaft 13 and 9 respectively journalled at its non-driving end in or on the output shaft of the other member. Bevel gear units 7, 7a include gear wheels 12, 15 meshing gear-wheels 10, 14 coupled to the shafts 9 and 13 by flexible couplings 11. The member 4 of the motor unit constitutes a motor armature, while the member 8 constitutes a rotatable field to produce opposite torques on the shafts 9 and 13 and so drive wheels on the axles independently at speeds to compensate for varying tread diamaters of the wheels. In other embodiments, Fig. 2 (not shown), a motor (24) has separate armatures for rotation in opposite directions, while in Fig. 3 (not shown) independent motors (44a, 44b) are secured together by a clamping ring (45).
