This process if for mfg. unburnable, decorative, wall and ceiling coverings based on asbestos, esp. asbestos -paper, -board, or -fabric, the novelty being the use of a non-inflammable colour paste on or in the asbestos. The colour paste may be applied by spraying, spreading, rolling or impregnation, esp. by dosing rollers; alternatively, the pigment may be mixed in with the pulp. The paste pref. contains 72-75% inorganic, non-inflammable pigments, fillers or light-fast colours plus 25% of a soln. of a plastic, which is difficult to ignite, as a binder to improve adhesion, the final amt. of the plastic in the dry being 2-4%; inorganic binders, esp. water-glass, B(OH)3, polyphosphates and/or borates may also be used.
