A device for retracting or removing a gluer device in an edge gluing type machine having a guide plate, a pressure shoe to produce contact between the edge surface of the gluer and the guide plate, a stop type pusher device which can be vertically moved and adjusted relative to the guide plate, and a follower device to guide the gluer into contact with the feed rollers, has follower elements (47) connected to the follower device (44, 49, 50) which make contact with the side surfaces (5') of the gluer (3') to effect transport or feed and which are directed against the edge (9) of the work piece (8) to be glued.
