Water cooling of a blast furnace casing - using drain wells beneath the water cooling boxes

A cooling arrangement for a blast furnace, esp. in the bosh and lower shaft region, is described. Underneath the conventional cooling boxes are provided wells, welded onto the furnace casing. The bottom end of each well is closed by a sealing mass and the top of the sloping well wall is provided with drains for the cooling water. The drains are pref. formed by an elastic battern, pressed onto the top of the sloping wall and provided with channels or grooves through which the water flows.
