The training or exercise device is for selective exercise of one or more muscle groupings and has at least one tensionable spring which acts as an energy storage device. At least two energy storage devices (F1, F2) are mounted into a single housing (13) and coupled to a body belt (17) by means of one or more cables. One of the storage devices (F1) can be controlled or locked during the tensioning sequence, and the locking action of the storage device (F1) can be released by action or motion of the other storage device (F2) during further exercising by the user.
